What Is Reception?
Reception is the way horary reads how willing and well-disposed the parties are toward one another. Below you will see what reception means, which dignities form it, its strong and weak varieties, and why it sometimes remains one-sided.
Hosting
When a planet rules the sign another planet occupies, it 'hosts it like a guest in its own home'. This is a sign of goodwill and help; it means one of the parties is willing.
How is it formed?
The 'ownership' here may be any of the five dignities: domicile, exaltation, triplicity, term and face. If a planet holds one of these in the sign the other occupies, reception is formed.
Strong reception
The soundest reception is by domicile or exaltation. It is like a genuine obligation, a support that is taken seriously.
Weak reception
Reception formed by triplicity, term or face is courteous but slight; on its own it is not counted as sufficient. Think of it as a polite but small gesture.
It may be one-sided
Reception is not always mutual. One planet may host the other without being hosted in return; then the willingness lies on one side only.
