Reception Can Rescue a Weak Chart
Reception can rescue a difficult chart: the willingness of one party, or of both, can soften the friction of a hard aspect. Below you will see how this works alongside a hard aspect, what happens in the absence of reception, and how a weak significator may be helped.
Hard aspect plus reception
Even when two significators meet by a hard aspect (square or opposition), the matter may still come about, though with difficulty, if there is reception between them. Reception is the willingness that softens the friction.
Without reception
Without reception a hard aspect remains genuinely harsh: unwillingness, conflict or obstruction stays exactly as it is.
Rescuing a weak significator
A significator in detriment or fall (that is, in a weak position) is helped when it is received by a strong planet; the matter may then come about, even if with difficulty.
A modern example
In work or in love, even when the two sides clash, the agreement may still be preserved if the other party is willing (that is, if they receive you). If neither party is willing, the hard aspect remains exactly as it is.
