Detriment and Fall (Weaknesses)
detriment and fall are the two principal essential debilities that break a significator's strength: in detriment the person or thing is very weak and out of place; in fall the case is somewhat lighter — the significator has fallen, but it can still recover.
Detriment: -5, the most severe
Detriment occurs when a planet occupies the sign directly opposite the one it rules — that is, it is 'exiled from home'; it is the most severe essential debility, -5 points. A significator in this state is in no condition to do its work.
Fall: -4
Fall occurs when a planet occupies the sign directly opposite its exaltation. It receives -4; a notch lighter than detriment's -5. Example: in Aries the ruler of the detriment is Venus and the ruler of the fall is Saturn.
Peregrine: the wandering planet
A peregrine planet is one that possesses none of the five essential dignities; it is like a stranger without land, title, or recognized place, and it receives -5. In horary it is one of the weakest conditions of all.
Sample question: Will I find my lost phone? If the planet signifying the object is in detriment: a poor sign; the object is 'displaced' and in an inaccessible position.
