Easy and Hard Aspects: Friendship or Friction?
It matters not only whether an aspect says the matter will happen, but how it will happen; the tone of the aspect decides that. Depending on this tone, aspects are divided into easy and hard.
Easy aspects (⚹ △)
Sextile and trine are the 'easy' aspects: they bring friendship, ease and agreement. When the two significators behold one another by an easy aspect, the matter tends to run smoothly.
Hard aspects (□ ☍)
Square and opposition are the 'hard' aspects; they carry friction and tension. Lilly counts the square as 'imperfect enmity' and the opposition as 'perfect hatred'. When a matter comes about by a hard aspect, it can still occur, but with difficulty and friction.
Conjunction: it depends on the company
A conjunction is neither easy nor hard in itself; it is read according to the planet it joins. A conjunction with Jupiter or Venus is a favorable sign, while a conjunction with Mars or Saturn is more difficult.
