How Should the Right Question Be Asked?
The path to the right answer often begins with the right question. What makes a question genuinely worthy of being asked?
A sincere and important matter
The essence of a good question is sincerity. A matter whose answer you truly care about, and which carries real importance for you, makes a good horary question.
Not idle curiosity
According to Deborah Houlding, a good question should arise not from “idle curiosity and undisciplined impatience,” but from a desire for guidance concerning an honest and important matter.
Do not ask casually
According to the tradition, as expressed by Bonatti, a question should not be based on a trivial occasion or a passing whim. The matter should genuinely have occupied you for some time — a day and a night, or longer. Questions asked casually do not produce a dependable reading.
Be specific and concrete
Horary answers specific, concrete questions. A clearly worded question that can be answered with “yes” or “no” is generally best.
The validity of the chart (radicality)
Before beginning the judgment, the practitioner considers whether the chart is fit and sufficiently mature to answer the question. This is called the chart’s radicality. It is an early check; the technical details are covered in later modules.
Sample question: Will I get the job for which I applied?
